Welcome to Tyfta Östergård Farm!
Tyfta Östergård is situated on the island of Tjörn at the point where the valley opens up as you drive from Fagerfjäll towards Rönnäng.
The farm is positioned on a rocky outcrop above the fields and where the farm yard ends, the woods begin. Woods, rocky outcrops and water alternate to form the landscape so typical for Tjörn. The area surrounding the farm consists of small farms, the rearing of animals and growing of vegetables are the main sources of income.
Tyfta Östergård is run as an operative farm where strawberries, raspberries and black currants are the most important crops. Crop rotation is carried out. Grain is grown on the areas resting from the berry crops.
The farm has been owned by the same family since the middle of the 17th century, inherited from father to son and is now run by Mats Lekander, the ninth generation. Gerda, his wife, who runs the farm with Mats, came to Sweden from Holland in 1968…… and stayed. At present there are three generations living on the farm. Apart from Mats and Gerda, Mats´s parents and Mats and Gerda´s daughter and her family. Two years ago they discontinued with animal rearing and in 2003 accommodation for guests in one of the stables has been completed. There are now 5 double rooms, each with its own bathroom. Guests can cook their meals and eat in the large country style kitchen/living room. There are also two two-bedroom self-contained flats and a functions room with adjoining kitchen, accommodating 20-50 people.
It's 3km from Tyfta to the sea and the nearest golf course and 10 kms to Tjörns regional centre, Skärhamn, where you will find The Nordic Watercolour Museum, art galleries and a variety of shops. It's 65 km to Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg.
